Fayette softball sweeps doubleheader
Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus won both ends of a PSUAC doubleheader Friday against visiting Penn State DuBois.
The Lady Roaring Lions won the first game in six innings, 8-0, and then rallied for a 15-6 victory in five innings in the nightcap.
Penn State Fayette scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning in the opener, added four more in the second and invoked the mercy rule with a single run in the bottom of the sixth.
Tiffany Markovitch (2-5) scattered three hits, striking out seven and walking only one. She also went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
Kelsey Holp went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Casey Hite also doubled, scoring three runs and driving in three.
Markovitch came on in relief of starter Hanna Stockewell in the second game, pitching the final 3.2 innings for the win.
Stockwell made it into the second inning, allowing six earned runs on seven hits. Markovitch allowed no runs on one hit with four strikeouts.
Chanel Porter went 2-for-2 with two RBI and three runs scored. Markovitch had another strong game with a double, four RBI and two runs scored.
Kaitlyn Wilson was 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Hite had a single, drove in two and scored three times. Hannah Kline doubled, drove in a run and scored twice.
Penn State Fayette improves to 5-9.
