Lady Raiders outlast Southmoreland, 18-8

Waynesburg Central pounded out 16 hits Friday afternoon as the Lady Raiders returned home from Southmoreland with an 18-8 Section 3-AAA victory.

Southmoreland (1-1, 1-2) led 8-3 after three innings, but Waynesburg stormed into the lead with seven runs, aided by three Lady Scot errors, in the top of the fourth inning.

The Lady Raiders (2-0, 4-1) scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Waynesburg’s Sydney Hare belted a two-run home run. She also had a single and finished with three RBI. Paige Rutan blasted a solo home run.

Erin Fitch and Brooke Meek both had two doubles for the Lady Raiders with Fitch driving in four runs. Rachel Elsenheimer added a double and single.

The Lady Raiders’ Selena Phillips went 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Meghan Braun struck out two and walked one in the victory.

Losing pitcher Lexi Klatt went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Emily Eutsey had a double and single.

Klatt was filling in for injured starting pitcher Jess Methany, but Southmoreland coach Todd Bunner hopes Methany will be ready to pitch this week.
