GCC overpowers Mapletown, 16-1

Greensburg Central Catholic 16, Mapletown 1 – Perennial Class A power Greensburg Central Catholic rolled past Mapletown, 16-1, on Tuesday in Section 1-A action at Mapletown.

The Centurions (2-0, 2-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, and scored one in the second, seven in the third and two in the fourth to put the 15-run Mercy Rule into effect.

GCC’s Bruce Leonard allowed one run (zero earned) on two hits in four innings. He had nine strikeouts and walked one. The Centurions’ Thomas Voelker, Bryce Kurpiel, Antonio Cavallo and Ethan Bailey. Teammate Connor Petrunak tripled.

The Maples (0-1, 0-3) scored in the first when Dylan Rush singled, stole second, and while stealing third, the GCC catcher overthrew the third baseman to allow Rush to score. Teammate Brian Bogden had Mapletown’s other hit, a single up the middle in the first.

The Maples return to the diamond this afternoon when they host Jeanette (1-1, 3-1) at 4:15 p.m.
