Lady Colonials hit 4 HRs in 17-1 victory over Trinity
Bailey Parshall broke her own school record with 23 strikeouts in Belle Vernon’s 6-2 non-section extra-innings victory over Waynesburg Central on Tuesday at Waynesburg.
The senior and Penn State recruit had the record with 20. She allowed two hits and walked one in nine innings. Waynesburg’s two runs were unearned.
The Lady Leopards (2-1, 3-1) hit three home runs in a four-run ninth. Natalie French hit a two-run homer, while Parshall, Mekenzie Sokol and Alex Sokol also homered.
French had two RBIs and also singled. Mekenzie Sokol added a single and Jordan French doubled and had two singles. Kourtney Gavatorta had two singles and an RBI.
The Lady Raiders’ Selena Phillips tripled. Starting pitcher Jordan Sibert allowed six earned runs on 13 hits in nine with three strikeouts and five walks.
Belle Vernon took a 1-0 lead in the third, Waynesburg tied the game in the bottom of the frame, and the Lady Leopards took a 2-1 advantage in the fourth before the Lady Raiders knotted things up in the sixth.
Belle Vernon returns to section play on Thursday at Keystone Oaks (0-2, 2-3). The first pitch is set for 3:45 p.m.
Waynesburg Central (2-0, 4-2) hosts Charleroi (0-2, 0-3) this afternoon at 4 p.m. in section action.

Albert Gallatin 17, Trinity 1 – Albert Gallatin used a seven-run third and eight-run fourth en route to a 17-1 Section 2-AAAAA victory over Trinity on Tuesday at Albert Gallatin High School’s softball field.
The Lady Colonials (2-0, 3-0) trailed 1-0 when they came to bat in the bottom of the first inning, but scored two runs for a 2-1 lead heading into the second.
Albert Gallatin’s had an 9-1 advantage after the third, and after scoring eight runs in the fourth for a 17-1 lead, the game was called due to the 15-run Mercy Rule.
Madison Hershberger picked up the win after allowing one earned run on three hits in four. She had five strikeouts and walked three. Hershberger was 3 for 4 with a double, one runs scored and an RBI.
Maddie Flowers’ solo home run in the first was one of four homers for the Lady Colonials. Flowers was 3 for 4 with four RBIs, and fell a triple short of the cycle.
Katie Kelley, Ally Bezjak and Lindsey Robinson also homered. Robinson hit a three-run shot in the fourth, while Kelley and Bezjak had solo shots in the third.
Kelley was 2 for 3 with a single and RBI, Bezjak was 2 for 4 with five RBIs and two runs scored, and Robinson was 3 for 3 with four RBIs and a triple short of the cycle.
Regan Perry took the loss for the Lady Hillers (2-1, 4-3) after allowing nine runs on 10 hits with one strikeout and a walk in 2 1/3 innings.
Albert Gallatin returns to action this afternoon when it travels to Ringgold (0-0, 1-1) in a section game at 4 p.m. before hosting Laurel Highlands (0-1, 2-1) on Friday at 4 p.m.

Southmoreland 11, Brownsville 1 – Southmoreland jumped out to an early lead en route to an 11-1 Section 3-AAA victory over Brownsville on Tuesday at Brownsville.
The Lady Scotties’ Lexi Klatt allowed one run on seven hits in five innings. She had two strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter. Klatt was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs. Teammate Jess Matheny was 2 for 3 with a double. Southmoreland’s Emily Eutsey doubled.
The Lady Falcons (0-3, 1-5) scored their lone run in the fifth. Brownsville’s Aubri Hogsett was 2 for 2 with a triple and RBI. Teammates Emily Bohna and Ashley Zosky had two singles.
Payton Hall took the loss.
Southmoreland (2-1, 2-2) hosts McGuffey (1-1, 1-1) in a section game while Brownsville hosts South Park (2-0, 2-0).

Yough 7, West Mifflin 1 – Yough scored four insurance runs in the seventh on its way to a 7-1 Section 2-AAAA victory over West Mifflin on Tuesday at West Mifflin.
The Lady Cougars’ Kierra Waywood had five strikeouts and three walks in getting the win. She allowed one run on three hits. Teammates Nina Maroney, Savannah Manns, Sammie McGhee and Kayley Westerman each had two singles.
Yough (2-0, 5-1) scored one run in the first, the Lady Titans (2-2, 4-2) tied the game in the second, but the visitors scored one in the third and sixth for a two-run advantage.
The Lady Cougars host South Fayette (0-1, 2-3) this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in section play.

Carmichaels 7, Monessen 2 – Dana Vatakis’ pitching and seven Carmichaels errors led Monessen to a 7-2 Section 2-A victory on Tuesday at Carmichaels.
Vatakis had 13 strikeouts and two walks in seven innings. She allowed two runs on three hits.
The Lady Greyhounds (1-1, 2-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Carmichaels (2-1, 4-3) tied the game in the fourth, but the visitors responded with four in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Monessen’s Mattie Telegraphis and Cara Wheeler doubled.
The Lady Mikes’ Emma Holaren tripled.
Carmichaels hosts West Greene (2-0, 5-1) this afternoon at 4:15 p.m. in section play.
The Lady Greyhounds are at Jefferson-Morgan (1-1, 2-1) on today at 3 p.m. in section play.
Baseball
Brownsville 10, Southmoreland 0 – Travis Sipple’s base hit up the middle broke up Brody Bagwell’s no-hitter, but Brownsville cruised to a 10-0 Section 3-AAA victory over Southmoreland on Tuesday at Redstone Field.
Bagwell had five strikeouts and three walks in the five-inning victory.
The Falcons’ Trevor Stewart had two double and teammate Austin Lincoski added a two bagger.
Brownsville’s Dylan Brosky had three RBIs with a single, sacrifice fly and walking with the bases loaded.
The home team scored three runs apiece in the first, second and fourth, and one in the third.
The Scotties’ Jaden Datz took the loss after allowing nine runs on eight hits in 4 2/3. He had two strikeouts, walked seven and hit two batters.
The Falcons (2-0, 3-0) host Washington (1-0, 1-2) this afternoon at 4:15 p.m.
Southmoreland fell to 0-2 in section play and 0-3 overall.

Greensburg Central Catholic 16, Mapletown 1 – Perennial Class A power Greensburg Central Catholic rolled past Mapletown, 16-1, on Tuesday in Section 1-A action at Mapletown.
The Centurions (2-0, 2-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, and scored one in the second, seven in the third and two in the fourth to put the 15-run Mercy Rule into effect.
GCC’s Bruce Leonard allowed one run (zero earned) on two hits in four innings. He had nine strikeouts and walked one. The Centurions’ Thomas Voelker, Bryce Kurpiel, Antonio Cavallo and Ethan Bailey. Teammate Connor Petrunak tripled.
The Maples (0-1, 0-3) scored in the first when Dylan Rush singled, stole second, and while stealing third, the GCC catcher overthrew the third baseman to allow Rush to score. Teammate Brian Bogden had Mapletown’s other hit, a single up the middle in the first.
The Maples return to the diamond this afternoon when they host Jeanette (1-1, 3-1) at 4:15 p.m.

Greensburg Central Catholic 10, Jefferson-Morgan 0 – Antonio Cavallo allowed only one hit and Greensburg Central Catholic made the most of 11 walks for a 10-0 Section 2-A victory Monday afternoon over visiting Jefferson-Morgan.
The game was moved to Seton Hill University with the Centurions’ field unplayable.
Greensburg C.C. scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, one in the second, four in the fourth and invoked the mercy rule with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning with two runs.
Cavallo allowed only Jake Broadwater’s single in the fourth inning. He walked one and struck out 11.
The Centurions (1-0, 1-1) had six hits, including Paul Rice’s double. Jefferson-Morgan pitchers walked 11 batters. Eight of those walks came around to score.
Colton Davidson started and pitched one inning for the Rockets (1-1, 2-1). He allowed three runs with no strikeouts and two walks.
Track & field
Brownsville 91, Frazier 50; Brownsville 92, Charleroi 48 – Brownsville sophomore Gionna Quarzo found out earlier on Tuesday that she had qualified for the Penn Relays in the 3,000, then went out and helped the Lady Falcons earn victories over Frazier, 91-50, and Charleroi, 92-48, at the Lady Cougars field.
Brownsville is 5-0 and has clinched a winning record for the sixth consecutive year.
Quarzo won the 1,600 in 5:22.99 and the 3,200 in 11:18.79, then combined with Sai Waqanivalu, Jessica Vance and Jamilah Copeland to win the 1,600 relay in 4:56.23, and teamed up with Sara Vance, Jessica Vance and Ashton Reposky to win the 3,200 relay in 11:08.91.
Elise Fields took first in two individual events for Brownsville, winning the discus (68 feet, 4 inches) and the shot put (26-7). Other individual winners for the Lady Falcons were Sara Vance in the 800 (2:44.39), Copeland in the 200 (:28.85), and Aniya Tarpley in the triple jump (31-3).
Brownsville also won the 400 relay with Tarpley, Copeland, Tyler Mayers and Maqaria Isaac turning in a time of 55.37.
Charleroi’s Shayla Watkins placed first in the 100 high hurdles (17:53 and the 300 intermediate hurdles (54.79). Frazier’s Kristyne Barch was a double-winner as well, taking first in the javelin (117-10) and long jump (15-5).
Other individual winners for Frazier were Skye Eicher in the 100 (12.92) and Kendall Shaporka in the 400 (1:10.90).
Quarzo will compete in the Penn Relays on April 25-27.

Frazier 66 (won tiebreaker), Brownsville 66; Charleroi 93, Brownsville 47 – Frazier edged Brownsville on a tiebreaker in their boys track and field meet on Tuesday at Charleroi.
The Falcons and Commodores tied in points, 66-66, but Frazier had more first-place finishes, 9-8, to give them the edge in the tiebreaker.
Brownsville (1-4) also fell to Charleroi, 93-47.
Frazier’s Julian Muccioli took first in the 100 (12.02), the 400 (59.12) and the long jump (20 feet, 1 inch). The Commodores’ Robert Acklin won the 1,600 (5:26.33).
Nick Seto won two individual events for the Falcons, taking first in the high jump (5-4) and triple jump (41-6).
Other individual winners for Brownsville were Brian Boyd in the 3,200 (13:06.92) and E.J. Victor in the javelin (125-1). The Falcons also won the 3200 relay with Noah Diggs, Seto, Ray Brumley and Lucas Kremposky finishing in 9:53.24.
The Cougars’ Sean Kwasney won the 800 (2:17.28) and Warren Hammond took first in the discus (121-8).
