Lady Maples out-slug J-M, 18-11
Mapletown 18, Jefferson-Morgan 11 – Elisa Clark had four hits, including a two-run homer and a double, as Mapletown out-slugged host Jefferson-Morgan, 18-11, in the Section 2-A softball opener for both teams on Tuesday.
The Lady Maples (2-0, 1-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. After the Lady Rockets (1-1, 0-1) pulled within 4-3, Mapletown put up five runs in both the fourth and fifth to take a commanding 14-3 advantage.
J-M battled back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, and Cait Dugan’s grand slam ignited a five-run sixth to make it 14-11, but the Lady Maples put the game away with four more runs in the seventh.
Faith Burkholder-Walter had four hits for Mapletown, and Macee Chesney had three, including a pair of doubles. Makenzie Cree also doubled for the Lady Maples.
Winning pitcher Madi Blaker walked five and struck out 10.
Dugan, who also doubled, struck out five and walked four in taking the loss. Autumn Gustovich smacked a two-run homer and a pair of singles for the Lady Rockets, and Abby Ankrom doubled and singled twice. Maddie Van Divner added double for J-M.
