Raiders sweep meet at California
Waynesburg Central (boys) 99, California 47; Waynesburg Central (girls) 74, California 72 – The Waynesburg Central boys were too deep, while the Lady Raiders scored just enough points as the visitors swept a Section 6-AA meet at California.
The Raiders defeated California, 99-47, while the Waynesburg girls edged the Lady Trojans, 74-72.
Waynesburg’s Daniel Layton had three first-place finishes, winning the 110 high hurdles (15.81), 300 intermediate hurdles (42.48), and 200 (24.16).
Caleb Shriver (100, 11.9; triple jump, 38-10), Jimmy Street (400, 59.03), Ray Behm (800, 2:27.85), Avery McConville (discus, 94-8), Scott Banko (javelin, 134-6), and Troy McIe (5-4) also had first-place finishes.
Waynesburg swept the relays.
Charles Roberts won the 1,600 (4:56.6) and 3,200 (12:09.51) for the Trojans. Ben Bilitski (shot put, 36-11) and Dustin Mock (long jump, 17-5½) also had individual first-place finishes.
The Lady Raiders’ Kaitlyn Pester (1,600, 6:48.99; 3,200, 16:13.69), Emma Mankey (400, 1:09.87), Maci Gray (800, 2:57.32), Maddie Brooks (shot put, 32-3½), and Julianna Fowler (long jump, 14-10½; triple jump, 30-11½) all finished first.
Waynesburg opened the meet by winning the 3,200 relay in 11:58.59.
The Lady Trojans won the 400 (54.84) and 1,600 (4:43.82) relays.
Makayla Boda (100 high hurdles, 17.99; 300 intermediate hurdles, 52.94), Deja Walker (100, 14.02), Bre Trusler (200, 28.53), Marissa Bitonti (discus, 85-2½; javelin, 106-3), and Annalise Gillespie (high jump, 4-10) finished first for California.
