Lady Scots defeat visiting McGuffey, 12-2

Southmoreland 12, McGuffey 2, 6 innings – Southmoreland scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday afternoon to invoke the mercy rule in a 12-2 Section 3-AAA victory over McGuffey.

The game was tied at 2-2 after three innings, but Southmoreland (3-1, 3-2) closed the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, four in the fifth and brought on the mercy rule with one out in the sixth with three runs.

The Lady Scots’ Emily Eutsey belted a solo home run in the sixth inning, singled and drove in two runs. Jess Matheny went 4-for-4, including three doubles, and drove in three runs. Faith Miller had a double, two singles and two RBI.

Bethany Bunner and Lexi Klatt both had a pair of singles, and Alexei Belzer drove in two runs.

Klatt struck out two and walked one for the win.

Shelby Dobrzynski took the loss for McGuffey (2-2, 2-2).
