Waynesburg Central 15, Charleroi 8 – Charleroi’s late rally came up short Wednesday afternoon in a 15-8 Section 3-AAA loss at Waynesburg Central.

The Lady Raiders (3-0, 5-2) led 7-0 after the first three innings.

The Lady Cougars (0-3, 0-4) scored their first run in the top of the fourth inning, but Waynesburg countered with two in the bottom of the inning.

Both teams scored a solo run in the fifth.

Charleroi plated four runs in the top of the sixth inning, only to have Waynesburg respond with five runs in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Cougars closed the scoring with two runs in the top of the seventh.

Meghan Braun went the distance for the win, striking out six and walking one.

The Lady Raiders’ Bailee Shimek hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and a double. Rachel Elsenheimer hit a pair of triples and drove in three runs.

Waynesburg’s Brooke Meek went 3-for-4 with a walk, while teammate Lexi Fuqua had three singles, a sacrifice and five RBI.

Taylor Boyd had a pair of doubles and four RBI for Charleroi. Bre Painter doubled and Kate Reed was 2-for-4.
