Greyhounds ride combined no-hitter, 16 hits to victory over Maples
Monessen 16, Mapletown 0 – Tyler Caterino and three other pitchers combined on a four-inning no-hitter as Monessen rolled over visiting Mapletown, 16-0, in a Section 2-A baseball game on Friday.
Monessen, which had 16 hits, scored five in the first and eight in the second to take a 13-0 advantage before finishing off the Maples ()-5, 0-3) with three runs in the fourth to invoke the mercy rule.
Cory Fleming went 4 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and four runs scored, Darius Stevenson tripled and knocked in three runs, and Nick Baker drove in four runs with a pair of doubles for the Greyhounds (3-2, 2-1). Vincenzo Rhome chipped in with two hits and three runs scored.
Caterino struck out three with no walks in going the first two innings. Duwayne Howell walked two and struck out two in tossing a scoreless third. Rhome walked two in the fourth before Cam Frolo relieved and struck out two in completing the no-hitter.
Lance Stevenson was the losing pitcher.
