Lady Scotties even score with Waynesburg, 15-2
Southmoreland rebounded from a 10-run loss at Waynesburg Central earlier in the season to defeat the host Lady Raiders on Monday, 15-2 in five innings, in a Section 3-AAA softball game.
The win pulls the Lady Scotties (4-3, 4-2) into a tie for second place with Waynesburg (6-4, 4-2).
The Lady Raiders won the first meeting, 18-8 on April 6, but Southmoreland turned the tables completely around in the rematch as Emily Eutsey and Faith Miller both had a double and two singles, and Lexi Klatt also had three hits. Miller also had two RBIs.
Bethany Bunner drove in three runs with a pair of doubles and Maegan Shetterly also doubled.
Jess Matheny struck out two and walked four in throwing a five-hitter.
Sidney Hare was 2 for 2 with a double for the Lady Raiders, who took a 1-0 in the first inning.
Southmoreland answered with five in the top of the second then exploded for seven in the fourth to take complete control, knocking out losing pitcher Jordan Sibert in the process.
