Martin outstanding in Big South Conference Meet

The Big South Conference Track & Field Meet was pushed back a day for more favorable weather, and that’s just what the athletes had Thursday afternoon at West Mifflin High School.

The Elizabeth Forward girls finished second in the team standings with 115 points. The Belle Vernon boys and girls both placed third with the Lady Leopards totaling 87 points and the Leopards scoring 98. The Warriors were fourth in the boys standing with 90 points.

The Ringgold boys were fifth (54), while the Lady Rams were seventh (51).

Trinity won the girls team title with 149 points and Chartiers Valley the boys crown with 178½.

Belle Vernon’s Hunter Martin had an outstanding meet, winning the 110 high hurdles in 15.46 seconds, the long jump (20-10), triple jump (43-0), and 300 intermediate hurdles in 40.89 seconds.

The Warriors’ Ricky Cialone won the shot put (48-1½) and discus (134-2). Daniel Jacobs finished first in the javelin with a throw of 172-2.

The Lady Warriors’ Alyssa Craig won the pole vault (8-6). Hannah Hughs won the shot put with a throw of 37¾ and was second in the discus (100-0). Brianna Spirnak finished first in the javelin with a throw of 140-5.

The Belle Vernon girls won the 3,200 relay in 10:14.07. Ringgold placed fourth in the opening relay.

The Lady Leopards’ Morgan Coccari, Hannah Seitzinger, Madison Schmeltz and Sydney Baciak finished second in the 400 relay in 52.14 seconds. Elizabeth Forward was fifth.

The Lady Leopards’ Grace Henderson won the 1,600 in a school-record 5:21.49 and teammate Kaitlyn Keegan was fourth in 5:39.51. Seitzinger won the 400 in record time of 59.17 seconds, as did Taylor Kovatch in the 800 (2:37.45). Henderson finished second in the high jump, clearing 5-2 for a school record.

The Leopards’ Isaac Evans, Jake Sepesky, Reid Bagiatis and Brett Seich won the 3,200 relay in 8:38.

Seich was second in the 1,600 in 4:46.94. Ty Robertson (7, 300 intermediate hurdles, 44.60), Kaitlyn Melvin (3, 800, 2:39.03), Evans (4, 800, 2:09.90), Seich (7, 800, 2:11.15), Baciak (7, high jump, 4-8), Ezra Johnson (2, shot put, 33-1; 3, discus, 98-8), Kori Kuhns (5, javelin, 95-11), Dane Anden (3, long jump, 19-6), Collin Pallotta (4, shot put, 41-4), Ryan Marek (5, discus, 121-1), Derek Thomas (2, javelin, 146-0), and Hayden Baron (6, javelin, 127-9) all placed in the top eight.

The Warriors were fourth in the 3,200 relay and Ringgold was fifth. The Elizabeth Forward boys were third in the 400 relay (46.26) and Belle Vernon was fourth (45.90).

The Lady Rams’ Anna Vogt was third in the 100 high hurdles (17.13). Mikayla Byscinski (5, 100, 13.79), Andrea Kassa (7, 1,600, 5:57.77), Jaden Ellis (5, 400, 1:06.83), Crystal Schuster (8, 400, 1:10.86), Vogt (7, 300 intermediate hurdles, 52.04), Anjolina Hrycko (3, 3,200, 13:14.45), girls 1,600 relay (3, 4:46.83), Faith Martin (8, high jump, 4-6), Faith Martin (7, long jump, 13-2; 3, triple jump, 30-8), and Solana Robledo (8, long jump, 13-1½; 4, triple jump, 30-5½) all had top-8 performances for Ringgold.

Elizabeth Forward’s Nick Hunnell was second in the 110 high hurdles (16.14), as was Dejuanna Gile in the girls 300 intermediate hurdles (50.11). Riley Smith (5, 100, 11.97), Hannah Hebda (5, 1,600, 5:52.50; 4, 800, 2:42.19; 4, 3,200, 13:26.48), Mitchell Minda (4, 1,600, 4:51.90; 6, 800, 2:10.72), Brianna Skalican (5, 300 intermediate hurdles, 51.62; 6, pole vault, 6-6), Chase Bodzer (4, 300 intermediate hurdles, 42.48), Dustin Edwards (8, 300 intermediate hurdles, 44.86), Bailey McLaughlin (6, 800, 2:42.96), Sophia Lee-Hauser (7, 800, 2:45.06), Corinne Lee-Hauser (7, 3,200, 13:48.46), Andrew Smith (8, 800, 2:11.61), Kassidy Lane (6, 200, 28.68), Tyler Bowser (7, 3,200, 11:10.70), boys 1,600 relay (6, 3:53.41), Gile (4, high jump, 5-0; 4, long jump, 14-5), Natasha Trainor (6, pole vault, 6-6), Haley McMahon (6, long jump, 13-9; 7, triple jump, 29-5), Ashley Thaxton (5, triple jump, 29-11), Shelby Russum (5, shot put, 30-9¾), Majesta Murtha (3, javelin, 113-9), Dustin Edwards (4, high jump, 5-8), Jordan Devine (4, pole vault, 9-6), and Chase Whatton (3, javelin, 144-3) all finished in the top eight.

The Rams’ Montell Carlock (8, 100, 12.19), Lucas Pajak (5, 1,600, 4:57.86; 3, 3,200, 10:44.64), Ben Daerr (6, 1,600, 4:58.89; 5, 3,200, 10:58.99), Eric Obringer (8, 1,600, 5:05.11), Tay Bronson (6, 300 intermediate hurdles, 44.51), Jake Gorman (4, 400, 51.77; 4, 200, 23.18), Colten McKown (5, 800, 2:10.11), boys 1,600 relay (2, 3:37.10), Ryan Leech (6, discus, 113-10), Ryan Leech (7, javelin, 127-6), and Tyler Farrelli (8, javelin, 126-10) placed in the top eight.
