First-place Yough sweeps twinbill with Carrick

Yough 18, Carrick 0; Yough 15, Carrick 0 – Kayley Westerman drove in a combined seven runs as first-place Yough swept visiting Carrick, 18-0 and 15-0, both in four innings, in a Section 2-AAAA softball doubleheader on Thursday.

Westerman had a double, single and three RBIs in the first game for the Lady Cougars (11-2, 8-0). Nina Maroney had three hits and two RBIs, Kierra Waywood had two hits and two RBIs and Heather Hyzy doubled and singled. Hannah Bach added a triple and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Karlie Clark threw a one-hitter with no walks and six strikeouts, and singled twice.

Losing pitcher Erin Denk had Carrick’s lone hit on the day.

Waywood and Clark threw two innings apiece in combined for an abbreviated perfect game in the second contest. Waywood struck out five and Clark, who also doubled twice, struck out four.

Westerman drove in four runs with two hits and a sacrifice fly. Bach tripled again, singled, and had one RBI, and Heather Christner also had two hits with a pair of RBIs. Sammie McGhee also knocked in two runs.

Ashleyn Wilkes took the loss.
