Albert Gallatin suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 setback on Friday in Section 3-AAAAA play at Gateway.

The Colonials (3-5, 4-7) held a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Gators (9-2, 10-2) scored two runs in the fourth and fifth.

Albert Gallatin is in fifth place behind Greater Latrobe (5-5) in the section standings. The top four teams make the playoffs. The two meet on Wednesday at Latrobe. The Colonials host Thomas Jefferson (2-8, 4-10) today at Smithfield Ball Field at 4:15 p.m. They welcome rival Laurel Highlands (10-0) to Smithfield on Friday before closing their closing their section schedule on May 8 at Franklin Regional (6-2).

Albert Gallatin was limited to five hits by Gators starting and winning pitcher Kris Dick, who allowed three runs (zero earned) in seven innings with 10 strikeouts and no walks.

The Colonials’ Adam Simon, Jackson Miller, Jace Capellini, Nate Bricker and Chandler Goodwin had hits, and Goodwin picked up AG’s lone RBI.

Austin Bergman and Bricker only gave up five hits with Bergman allowing two and Bricker three, but three of those hits were big, as Gateway’s Caleb Lehman hit a home run and knocked in two runs, Michael Vojnik doubled and Dick had a double and two RBIs.

Carmichaels 13, Fort Cherry 3 — Carmichaels used a five-run second inning and rode the arm of Logan Mayhle for a 13-3 Section 1-AA victory over Fort Cherry on Saturday at Fort Cherry for its ninth straight win.

The Rangers are second in the section standings at 6-3.

Carmichaels held a 6-1 lead after the second inning, and was never in danger of giving up the lead behind Mayhle’s pitching. Mayhle gave up three runs (one earned) on eight hits (all singles) in seven innings. He had five strikeouts and walked two. He also hit a solo home run and added a single.

Teammate Al Cree was a triple shy of the cycle and had four RBIs. The Mikes’ Nick Mundell had two hits, including a double.
