Lady Pioneers respond in big way following first Section 2-A loss
West Greene 17, Mapletown 1 – West Greene responded in a big way following its first Section 2-A loss in 28 games with a 17-1 victory over Mapletown on Friday at West Greene.
WG suffered a 2-1 setback to Monessen on Thursday, but came back with a vengeance against one of its county rivals.
The Lady Pioneers (7-1, 10-3) scored four in the first inning before exploding for 13 in the second before the Lady Maples (3-4, 5-4) got on the scoreboard in the third.
West Greene’s Madison Renner threw a one hitter in third innings with five strikeouts and no walks. She allowed one run. Renner had single and two RBIs.
The Pioneers’ McKenna Lampe was 3 for 3 with a triple, three runs scored an RBI and stolen base. Twin-sister Madison Lampe was also 3 for 3 with a double, three runs scored, three stolen bases and two RBIs.
West Greene’s Jade Renner was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Teammate Kaitlyn Rizor was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. WG’s Lexie Mooney, Linzee Stover and Mackenzie Carpenter each had two hits. Teammate Brianna Amos had a hit and two RBIs.
The Lady Pioneers travel to Waynesburg Central (4-3, 6-6) on Monday in a non-section game. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Mapletown is at California (1-7, 1-8) on Monday in a Section 2-A game. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m.
