Lady Leopards win Mid Mon Track Classic
The Belle Vernon girls rolled into Tuesday’s WPIAL Class AAA team playoffs semifinals by taking the team title Monday at the Scott Frederick Mid Mon Track Classic.
The boys had a strong afternoon at Ringgold High School, as well, by placing second in the team standings.
The Lady Leopards’ Hannah Seitzinger had three first-place finishes, winning the 100 (13.04), 200 (27.06), and 400 (1:00.74), as well as running on the third-place 400 relay.
Grace Henderson won the high jump, clearing 5-4 to break her school record. The freshman also finished second in the 1,600 (5:25) and 3,200 (12:26).
Ezra Johnson had a pair of first-place finishes, winning gold in the shot put (32-1) and discus (108-5).
Belle Vernon’s Sydney Baciak was second in the 100 high hurdles (16.4), long jump (15-5), and high jump (5-0), and third in the triple jump (31-3½).
Kaitlyn Melvin was second in the 800 in 2:37. Taylor Kovatch (5, 800, 2:43), the 3,200 relay (4, 11:22), Kori Kuhns (4, javelin, 88-2), and Talon Miller (6, javelin, 79-0) also had top-6 finishes.
The Leopards’ Hunter Martin back up his outstanding performance in Saturday’s WCCA Track & Field Championships by winning the 110 high hurdles (15.3), long jump (22-¾), and triple jump (44-3), and finishing second in the 300 intermediate hurdles (42.02)
Isaac Evans won the 800 in 2:09 and Brett Seich broke the tape first in the 1,600 in a time of 4:42, as well as in the 3,200 (10:36). The 3,200 relay won in 8:50.
