PSAC honors Jacobs
Seton Hill junior and Laurel Highlands graduate Dontay Jacobs was named the PSAC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week after he won the 400 and was part of the Griffins’ record-setting 1,600 relay last week at the YSU Mid-Major Invite.
Jacobs finished first in the 400 with a time of 48.51 seconds. He also ran a leg on the 1,600 relay that finished first in a school-record time of 3:18.08.
Local runners shine
Albert Gallatin graduate Xavier Stephens had the lone first-place finish for Point Park last Saturday at the Mt. Union Jim Wuske Invitational.
Stephens won the 800 in 1:58.70. He also placed second in the mile with a school-record time of 4:25.
Waynesburg Central graduate Sean Hilverding placed third in the 5,000 meters in a time of 16:28.
Brownsville grad Kara Rohlf finished seventh in the 1,000 meters (3:19) and 10th in the 3,000 meters (11:16).

Dunn recognized
California University of Pa. head football coach Gary Dunn was honored by The Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation at the 2018 American Football Coaches Association Convention in Charlotte, N.C.
The football program participated in the “Get in the Game, Save a Life” program, a partnership of the Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation and Be The Match Foundation, for the first time in April 2017. The effort registered 434 donors.
Basketball
Popeck ECAC top rookie
Waynesburg freshman guard Matt Popeck was named the ECAC Division II South Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Popeck scored a career-high 30 points last Saturday in the Yellow Jackets’ 88-86 win over Westminster. The Washington graduate averaged 19 points, 3 assists and 2½ rebounds per game last week.
