PS Fayette wrestlers pick up victories
Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, won two matches on Sunday at the Penn State Mont Alto Duals with Nathan Spinetti and Gunnar Lynch going 4-0.
The Roaring Lions (6-4) defeated Pitt Bradford, 36-18, and Mont Alto, 36-30, but lost to Penn State University’s Wrestling Club, 31-27, and Penn Tech, 42-21. Penn State Fayette is ranked No. 16 in the Division I National Championship Wrestling Association (NCWA) rankings.
Spinetti, a Uniontown graduate, won all four of his matches at 285 pounds. Spinetti is 13-0 this season and ranked No. 5 in the country in the Division I NCWA individual rankings.
Spinetti picked up two forfeits against Mont Alto and Penn State University’s Wrestling Club before pinning Pitt Bradford’s Joseph Blanco in 1:39 and earning a 7-3 decision over Penn Tech’s Dylan Otis.
Spinetti was honored by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) as its top wrestler for the week of Jan. 30.
Lynch, a Connellsville graduate, picked up forfeits against Mont Alto, Pitt Bradford and Penn Tech, and earned a 3-0 decision over Penn State University Wrestling Club’s Chris Williams.
Lynch is 8-1 this season and ranked No. 17 in the NCWA rankings at 235.
Penn State Fayette senior Mike Perdomo (12-10) won by forfeit against Penn State University’s Wrestling Club, and pinned Mont Alto’s Brandon Jackson and Pitt Bradford’s Aaron Smith. Perdomo was
3-1 and is ranked No. 9 in the NCWA rankings at 141. Fellow senior Pedro Tavarez (9-12) was 3-1 at 149.
Connellsville graduate Ethan Kenney (4-3) was 1-1 at 165. Mapletown graduate Gavin Uphold (7-12) was 2-2 at 197.
Yough graduate John Fedorek (4-10) was 2-2 at 125, and Southmoreland graduate Lucas Baranski (6-8) was 2-2 at 133.
The Jerry Simon-led Roaring Lions look to defend their Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Championship this Saturday at Penn State University’s Rec Hall. The USCAA Championships will also be contested.
