Hot-shooting Knights sink Cal men, 74-63

Gannon 74, California University of Pa. 63 – Gannon put five players in double figures and shot 57 percent from the field in defeating visiting California University of Pa., 74-63, in a PSAC West men’s basketball game on Wednesday.

Cordell Smith, who hit five 3-pointers, and Johmere Howze scored 18 points apiece to lead the Vulcans.

Robel Teckle added 11 points on five-of-seven shooting and also had six rebounds and three assists. Isaiah Lewis contributed 10 points, three boards, two assists and two steals off the bench.

Zay Jackson also scored 18 points to lead the Knights (15-8, 11-6). He was followed by Frank Webb Jr. (14), Damon Miraud (12), Jair Green (10) and Even Phoenix (10).

The Vulcans (9-14, 5-12) have lost three in a row and six of their last seven.

Cal fell behind 8-3 before rallying to pull even at 10-10, but Gannon then went on a 12-2 run and never trailed again.

The Knights led 38-33 at halftime. The Vulcans sliced the gap to 40-38 early in the second half before Gannon countered with an eight-point run and eventually pushed its lead up to 17 before settling on the 11-point victory.

The Knights made 32 of 56 shots.
