Leopards fall to Youngstown East, 76-66

Belle Vernon dropped a non-section game, 76-66, to East High School out of Youngstown, Ohio, on Sunday in the Showdown at New Castle Tournament at New Castle High School.

The Section 3-AAAA championships fell behind, 25-15, after the first quarter, but rallied with a 19-12 advantage in the second to cut the deficit at halftime to 37-34.

East Youngstown outscored the Leopards, 13-11, in the fourth for a 50-45 edge heading into the fourth. East had a 26-21 advantage in the fourth.

Griffin LeCarte led Belle Vernon (12-2, 17-5) in scoring with 18 points and Cam Nusser had 17, including five 3-pointers. Jake Rathway made two 3-pointers, and LeCarte connected on one.

The Leopards await the WPIAL Pairings Meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to see who they play in the playoffs.
