Gerber has record-breaking run in PAC indoor meet

Waynesburg senior Julie Gerber had two first-place finishes Thursday night at the PAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, including a record-breaking run in the 3,000 meters.

The Uniontown graduate was one of four runners to break the conference indoor mark in the 3,000 as she crossed the finish line in 10:33.66.

Gerber also won the 5,000 meters (19:18.78) and finished third in the mile (5:17.65).

Washington & Jefferson’s Hannah Lacey, a Beth-Center grad, was second in the 800 with a time of 2:24.48. Lacey was also on the Presidents’ distance medley relay that finished second in 13:16.25 and finished fifth in the long jump (15-9).

The Yellow Jackets’ Addie Knetzer jumped right from basketball season into track season by winning the shot put with a throw of 41-1¾.

Teammate Julie Bush, from Yough, was third in the high jump, clearing 4-8¾.

Waynesburg’s Elizabeth Trump, an Albert Gallatin graduate, placed eighth in the 3,000 with a time of 11:35.24.

Cassidy Guiser (6, 400, 1:02.95), Kathryn Thompson (7, 400, 1:03.22), Mary Beth Cunningham (8, 400, 1:04.02), Angie Marchetti (3, 800, 2:25.06; 3, mile, 5:25.55), Rebecca Volz (5, 800, 2:27.02; 4, mile, 5:30.85), Elinore Loch (6, 800, 2:27.27; 6, mile, 5:34.37; 7, triple jump, 31-5¾), Taylor Clarkson (8, 800, 2:38.09; 4, high jump, 4-8¾), Teghan Simonton (6, 3,000, 11:03.82; 6, 5,000, 19:43.06), Katherine Fair (2, 60 hurdles, 9.79), women’s 1,600 relay (4, 4:26.97), women’s distance medley relay (1, 12:57.97), Ariana Human-McKinnon (7, pole vault, 8-9¼), and Amber Yauch (3, long jump, 16-2½; 5, triple jump, 32-7¾) all had top-eight finishes for Waynesburg.

The Waynesburg women successfully defended their team title.

Saint Vincent’s Sarah Wozniak, from Uniontown, finished fifth in the shot put with a top throw of 35-7¼.

The Yellow Jackets’ Mitchell Kendra won the pole vault, clearing 14-1¼.

Bethany’s Byron Mayers, a Brownsville graduate, finished second in the 200 with a time of 22.85 seconds. He also ran on the Bison’s 1,600 relay that finished seventh in 3:37.37.

Mark Minjock (6, 60 dash, 7.21; 7, 200, 25.16), Nathan Jecelin (7, mile, 4:28.72), Matthew Shinkle (3, 60 hurdles, 8.82), men’s 1,600 relay (8, 3:40.84), men’s distance medley relay (5, 11:03.76), Joshua Olive (6, pole vault, 10-11¾), Michael Trax (8, long jump, 21-2¾), Kenneth Barnhart (5, triple jump, 41-4¼), Ryan Vantine (3, shot put, 44-¾), and Drew Schwab (6, weight throw, 43-1¾) all placed in the top eight for Waynesburg.
