Lady Maples win first section game of year

Mapletown used a strong second half to win its first Section 2-A game this season in defeating Monessen, 34-23, on Thursday at Mapletown High School.

The Lady Maples (1-2, 4-8) held a 7-6 edge after the first quarter, but the Lady Greyhounds (0-4, 1-12) outscored the home team, 5-2, in the second for an 11-9 halftime advantage.

Mapletown held a 12-5 edge in the third and 13-7 advantage in the fourth.

The Lady Maples’ Abby Antill had a game-high 13 points, while teammate Kelsi Smith had 10 rebounds.

Monessen’s Madison Telegraphis, Marqula Green and Qitarah Hardison scored six points apiece.
