Legion championship finals cancelled
The Fayette County American Legion Championship Finals between host Uniontown and Belle Vernon that was scheduled for Sunday evening at Hutchinson Park has been cancelled.
Belle Vernon (13-6) was not able to field a team of nine by the scheduled time of 7:30 p.m.
Uniontown (18-1) defeated Belle Vernon, 11-10, on Wednesday at Hutchinson Park to advance to Sunday’s championship finals. Belle Vernon rebounded to down Farmington, 6-2, on Saturday at John DiVirgilio Sports Complex to advance to the Region 6 Tournament.
The Region 6 Tournament is scheduled to begin on Friday at Hutchinson Field, and will run through July 24. Uniontown will host for the second straight season. Uniontown, Connellsville (16-4) and Belle Vernon will represent the Fayette County American Legion Baseball League in the regional.
Allegheny and Beaver Counties will be represented in the regional tournament, and the winning team qualifies for the state championship tournament that runs from July 28 to Aug. 1 in Boyertown.
Fayette County hopes to complete its league playoffs after the regional and state playoffs have concluded.
