FCBL playoffs begin tonight
The Fayette County Baseball League playoffs begin this evening with two semifinal series.
Carmichaels (13-2), the No. 1 seed and two-time defending champions, opens up the best-of-three series against Mitch’s Bail Bonds (7-6-2) at Carmichaels High School.
Bill’s Bit Service (8-6-1), the second seed, hosts Mill Run (8-6-1), but the venue has changed to Wharton Township Community Park due to Hutchinson Field hosting the Pennsylvania American Legion Region 6 Championship Tournament.
Both game are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The higher seed hosts Game 1, and if necessary Game 3, while the lower seed is the home team for Game 2. If both series end in two games, the finals will begin on Thursday, otherwise, the finals begin on Friday.
AMD Industries (4-11) and Better Edge (3-12) finished fifth and sixth in the final regular-season standings.
The FCBL participated in an All-Star game against Penn Mar on Friday at Garrett County Community College. The game was called after nine innings with the score tied at 13.
The Copperheads had four representatives in Hunter Robinson, Chuck Gasti, Brock Bonadio and Ryan Minteer. The Millers had four All-Stars in Dakota McWilliams, Trevor Farrell, Alan VanSickle and Grant Witt.
The All-Americans had two players in Troy Kifer and Hudson Novak. Better Edge was represented by Russ Ritenour and Matt Waigand, and Louden Conte and Aaron Previsky represented AMD Industries. Bill’s Bit Service had one representative in Austin Clark.
Ryan Encapera, who also serves as FCBL President, managed the All-Stars.
