Three Waynesburg University wrestlers begin their quest for a national title when the NCAA Division III Championships begin this morning at Cleveland’s Public Auditorium.

The Yellow Jackets’ Tristan Buxton, Ken Burrs and Jake Evans start wrestling at 11 a.m.

Evans, an Elizabeth Forward graduate, is the fifth seed at 285 pounds, and wrestles Wisconsin-Platteville’s D’andre Johnson (21-4) in the first round.

Evans was seventh last year at 285 to earn All-American status.

Burrs (25-5) opens up in the first round against No. 3 seed Kyle Koser (44-3) from Messiah at 197.

Buxton (35-6) will face the winner of Central, Iowa’s C.J. Pestano, the top seed with a 27-0 record, and Ithaca’s Ferdinand Mase (28-5) at 125.

The top eight in each weight class earn a medal and All-American status.
