Smackdown Live presents Fastlane, the last brand-split PPV on the WWE Network tonight, and six matches have been announced.

WWE champion AJ Styles will defend the title against John Cena, Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in a six-pack challenge.

Charlotte Flair defends the Smackdown women’s title against Ruby Riott, Bobby Roode defends the United States title against Randy Orton, The Usos defend the Smackdown tag titles against The New Day, Rusev faces Shinsuke Nakamura and Becky Lynch teams with Naomi to take on Natalya and Carmella.

The card is lacking on paper, but with WWE on the “Road to WrestleMania,” don’t be surprised to see a major angle come out of the show.

Pro wrestling fans are clamoring for a Styles and Nakamura match at Mania, and the hope here is that the Smackdown Creative Team will give the fans the match.

Don’t be surprised to see the rumored Cena vs. The Undertaker match begin to get hyped at Fastlane or on either Raw or Smackdown Live this week.

Hardy cleared for return

Jeff Hardy has been cleared by his surgeon to return to the ring after recovering from successful rotator cuff surgery in October.

As soon as WWE doctors clear him, he will be back in action. Look for it to be sooner rather than later as he is expected to wrestle at WrestleMania.

Two new WWE titles?

Word broke on Tuesday that WWE was looking to create 205 Live cruiserweight tag team titles.

On Wednesday, www.pwinsiderelite.com broke news that NXT will be adding a secondary singles title and it will be known as the NXT North American championship.

The first NXT North American champion will be crowned at Takeover: New Orleans, the night before WrestleMania in a six-way Ladder match.

The participants will be EC3, Killian Dane, Ricochet, Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan and Velveteen Dream.

RYSE show in Brownsville a success

RYSE put on a pro wrestling fund raiser last Saturday night for the Brownsville High School softball program, and it was a huge success.

“We are so appreciative of Jason Clements and RYSE helping us raise money for the softball program,” said Brownsville softball coach Jane Bock. “The show was top-notch and I recommend wrestling fans attending RYSE shows because they are a family-friendly and entertaining promotion.”

Clements said the show was a huge hit with the wrestlers as well.

“We had an absolute blast at Brownsville and the school was very welcoming,” he said. “The fans and students were into the show the entire night and we can’t wait to come back.”

When the show ended, fans were clamoring for more and several made sure to tell Brownsville representatives that another show should be held.

Mixed Tag Team Challenge continues Tuesday

The third quarterfinal of the WWE Mixed Tag Team Challenge takes place Tuesday on Facebook Watch when Rusev and Lana take on Roode and Flair.

The winning team advances to the semifinals, although their opponents will be chosen by the fans. Fans will vote and pick one of the eliminated teams and that team will have a second chance in the tournament.

Mysterio update

Last week we looked at Rey Mysterio injuring his bicep tendon. It appears that it is not a complete tear which means he will more than likely not need surgery.

It will not affect his contract negotiations with WWE, although it is not known if he will be able to wrestle at WrestleMania.

”Greatest Royal Rumble” to have 50 wrestlers

WWE announced earlier this week that it will host a show titled, “Greatest Royal Rumble,” in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Announced for the show so far are Cena, Triple H, Roman Reigns, Styles, Braun Strowman, The New Day, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt, and Shinsuke Nakamura, among others.

To avoid confusion, no, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is not Jedha City from Rogue One: A Star Wars story.

Although both are known for its sandy terrain, they are completely different.

Frequent emailer Fred from Uniontown would have been emailing asking that any day now!

Former champ at WWE HQ

Former WWE World champion Alberto Del Rio, now known elsewhere as Alberto el Patron, was at WWE headquarters last week. He was there filming interview material for an upcoming WWE project on Rey Mysterio.

While there, he met with McMahon.

It is well known by those in WWE that McMahon is a huge fan of el Patron’s work so a return to WWE cannot be ruled out.

While it was announced Tuesday that el Patron will perform at AAA’s biggest evet of the year, Triplemania, on August 25, it is a one-time appearance.

Jericho done with New Japan?

In a Twitter Q&A session on Monday, Chris Jericho answered a question about whether he was done with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

He simply replied, “Unfortunately, yes.”

Knowing Jericho, that probably means he will appear on NJPW’s next card as he has been known to try and throw fans off.
