PSAC honors Wickstrom, Downing

California University of Pa. senior Carlee Wickstrom and junior Emilee Downing were honored by the PSAC West Conference for their play last week.

Wickstrom, a third baseman, was named the Softball Athlete of the Week, while Downing is the Pitcher of the Week.

Wickstrom batted .474 last week as the Vulcans went 3-3 in the PFX Spring Games in Florida. Wickstrom drove in seven runs, had a .789 slugging percentage and scored seven runs. Her top performance of the week was a 4-for-4 outing with four RBI and four runs scored in a 17-6 victory last Monday against St. Thomas Aquinas.

Downing had two complete-game victories with a 0.58 ERA and 15 strikeouts. She allowed one earned run on three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over five innings in a 13-1 victory over Post. Downing followed with a complete-game shutout against Bemidji State, allowing six hits and two walks with a career-high eight strikeouts.
