Parshall strikes out 20 in 2-1 win
Belle Vernon 2, Steel Valley 1 – Bailey Parshall accounted for all but one out Monday afternoon, pitching to Belle Vernon to a 2-1 non-section victory at Steel Valley.
Parshall struck out 20 to break her school record in a seven-inning game of 17. Her strikeout performance also eclipsed her mark of 19 in an extra inning game.
Parshall allowed four hits and didn’t walk a batter.
Parshall also had a single and drove in the Lady Leopards’ first run in the top of the fifth inning. Kourtney Gavatorta drove in the eventual winning run later in the inning.
Steel Valley (0-1) answered in the bottom of the inning on Marissa Hoesch’s run-scoring single.
Gavatorta had a pair of singles for the Lady Leopards (1-0). Natalie French also singled.
Morgan Farrah had a single and triple for the Lady Ironmen, and Katie Proff added a single.
Steel Valley’s Maddie Williams allowed four hits, walked three and struck out four.
