Lady Colonials clinch share of section title

Albert Gallatin clinched at least a share of the Section 2-AAAAA softball title Thursday afternoon with a wild 22-7 victory in three innings over visiting Ringgold.

Albert Gallatin improves to 9-2 in the section and 10-2 overall, and finishes the section schedule against Laurel Highlands. Connellsville sits in second place at 9-3.

Ringgold slips to 2-8 in the section and 3-8 overall.

Maddy Flowers’ three-run home run with no outs in the bottom of the third inning invoked the 15-run mercy rule. Flowers also had a double and triple, and drove in five runs.

Maddy Hershberger came on in relief of Flowers and picked up the final four outs for the win. She allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and one strikeout. Hershberger also had a double.

Annalia Paoli belted two home runs for the Lady Colonials, both two-run shots, and doubled for a five RBI day. Ally Bezjak hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. She also hit a double and single, and had four RBI.

Katie Kelley went 2-for-2 with a double and single, and one RBI. Hannah Turtzer also hit a home run, a two-run shot in the second inning. She added a single and drove in three runs.

Jill Scherer took the loss for the Lady Rams. Kylie Gosliak doubled and Taylor Mendicino had a pair of singles.
