Maples put end to Rockets’ playoff hopes
Mapletown 6, Jefferson-Morgan 5 – Mapletown held off visiting Jefferson-Morgan, 6-5, in a Section 2-A baseball game on Friday, eliminating the Rockets from playoff contention.
The Maples jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held on as J-M scored twice in the fourth and three times in the seventh.
Winning pitcher Ethan Carter allowed five unearned runs on four hits with six walks and three strikeouts. Lane Powell relieved Carter with runners on second and third and two outs in the seventh, and recorded a game-ending strikeout to earn the save.
Dylan Rush reached base three times and totaled two hits, two runs and five stolen bases for the Maples (4-11, 3-9) who won their second in a row.
Rush’s bunt single started a four-run first for Mapletown with Brandon Donley’s two-run single being the big blow in the inning. The Maples tacked on two more runs in the second.
Zack Gamble doubled for the Rockets (5-7, 4-7). Devin Stoneking took the loss.
