Union rallies in 7th inning for 7-6 win

By The 1 min read

Bryce Smith lifted a fly ball over the drawn-in outfield as Union rallied for a 7-6 victory Monday afternoon over Monessen in the WPIAL Class A baseball quarterfinal played at Burkett Park.

Two errors helped the Scotties (13-3) load the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning, and with the entire Monessen defense pulled in, Smith lofted a ball over the outfield for the game-winning single.

Smith also earned the win after allowing one run with one walk and one strikeout in the top of the seventh inning.

The Greyhounds (11-7) trailed 6-1 entering the top of the seventh, but fought back to take their first lead of the game.

Antonio Rhome and Vincenzo Rhome both had two-run singles, and Cam Frolo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to account for the fifth run of the inning.

Antonio Rhome went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Union led 1-0 after the first inning, 2-0 after four and 6-1 through five innings.
