Big innings lift Uniontown Legion to 9-3 win

Uniontown broke open Monday’s Fayette American Legion Baseball League game with a second four-run inning for a 9-3 victory over visiting Belle Vernon.

Uniontown (1-0) led 1-0 after two innings, but added four runs for a 5-0 lead.

Belle Vernon (0-2) scored single runs in both the top of the fourth and fifth innings, but Uniontown pulled away again with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Belle Vernon added a single run in the top of the seventh.

Mason McManus started and went six innings for the win, allowing two unearned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Greg Lancaster pitched the seventh inning, allowing one unearned run on two hits with one strikeout.

Uniontown’s Ian Edenfield doubled and scored three runs. Nate Zimcosky also doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Dylan Bohna had two singles, two runs scored and two RBI. Tanny Erminio also drove in a pair of runs.

Belle Vernon’s Jake Rathway had two singles. Joe Sabolek had the visitors’ lone RBI.

Smithfield-Fairchance 9, Colonial (3) 1 – Willie Palmer didn’t allow a walk and had 10 strikeouts in leading Smithfield-Fairchance to a 9-1 victory over Colonial 3 on Monday in Fayette American Legion action at Rowes Run Field.

Palmer yielded one run on six hits in a complete-game, seven-inning outing. The Albert Gallatin product threw 99 pitches. Smithfield-Fairchance (1-0) turned a double play to end the game that kept Palmer under 100 pitches.

SF scored two runs in the top of the first, added four in the fifth for a 6-0 lead, and extended its advantage to 9-0 in the sixth with three runs. Colonial 3 broke up the shutout with one run in the seventh.

Smithfield-Fairchance’s Dylan Rush (Mapletown) had two hits, three runs, four steals and a walk. Teammate Adam Simon (Albert Gallatin) had two hits, runs, steals and RBIs.

SF’s Chandler Goodwin (Albert Gallatin) had two singles, three RBIs, one run, walk and steal. Fellow Colonial Jace Capellini had two hits and steals, one run and walk.

Colonial 3’s Brandon Bell (Uniontown) had two hits. Nik Gibson had eight strikeouts and walked four in taking the loss.

Smithfield travels to Hutchinson Field tonight to play Uniontown at 6 p.m.
