Rohanna shoots 3-under in third round
Although the third round wasn’t bogey-free as was the second round, Rachel Rohanna moved up the leaderboard after shooting a 3-under 69 Saturday in the Symetra Tour Championship.
The Waynesburg Central enters the final round in defense of her tour title tied in sixth place at 8-under 208.
Riuxin Liu moved into a tie with Pavarisa Yoktuan, the leader after the first two rounds, atop the leaderboard at 18-under 198. Rohanna sits two strokes from third place entering the final round.
Rohanna opened the third round at LPGA International Jones course with a bogey on the first hole. She scored her second bogey on No. 6, a par-3.
“I hit my tee shot into the water on No. 1,” said Rohanna. “Then, I had a 3-putt on the par-3.”
Otherwise, Rohanna put together another solid round with five birdies.
“I had a 2-putt on the par-5 (No. 5) for birdie,” said Rohanna. “I hit a lot of close shots today.”
Rohanna believes the 3-under of her third round could’ve easily been 7- or 8-under.
“I left so many out there. It could’ve easily been a low score. I could’ve shaved off three or four more strokes,” said Rohanna, adding, “I believe a 65 is out there.”
She hit 11-of-14 fairways and 17-of-18 greens in regulation, although she had 33 putts, the most of the three rounds.
Rohanna’s father Tom caddied for her in the first two rounds, but her father begged off the bag to join the gallery. He was replaced by the caddy of a golfer who missed the cut.
“My dad said he’d rather watch. But, (her new caddy) is a really good caddy,” said Rohanna.
Rohanna looks to put together one more solid round to move up the leaderboard on the final day.
“If I could move into the top 3, that would be great. It’s such a big purse, anything up top would be great,” said Rohanna. “If I keep hitting greens and get putts to fall, I can put together a low round.”
