Section 3-AA Champion Charleroi blanks Beth-Center, 6-0
Section 3-AA Boys’ Soccer Champion Charleroi wrapped up conference play with a 6-0 victory over Beth-Center on Monday at Charleroi.
The Cougars’ Cullen Woytovich scored a natural hat trick and teammate Jace Kepich had four assists. Woytovich has 43 goals this season.
JD Fleming set up Randy Carson two minutes into the match for a 1-0 Charleroi lead. Kepich set up Nick Laskey at 4:40 of the first half and Woytovich at 10:51. The Cougars (12-0, 15-0) took a 3-0 advantage into halftime.
Phil Banks assisted on Woytovich’s second goal at 1:17 of the second half, and Kepich set up Woytovich at 19:10. Carson scored his second goal off a feed from Kepich at 28:44.
Charleroi held a 13-6 advantage in shots on goal. Cougars keeper Nick Goodwin made six saves for the clean sheet.
Charleroi wrapped up its regular season on Tuesday when it hosted Bentworth (3-8, 4-12) in non-section play.
The Bulldogs (6-6, 8-10) finished their regular season Monday, but will join the Cougars in the WPIAL Class AA playoffs that are scheduled to begin Saturday. The pairings meeting will be held on Wednesday. Charleroi is the only undefeated and untied team in Class AA, and should receive a favorable seed.
Girls Soccer
Brownsville 2, Waynesburg Central 1 – Brownsville avenged an earlier loss to Waynesburg Central with a 2-1 victory in Section 3-AA girls’ soccer play on Monday at Redstone Field in Republic.
Tessa Dellarose set up Sarah Lemesh for both of the Lady Falcons’ goals to rally Brownsville (9-4, 11-4) past the Lady Raiders (10-4, 13-5). Waynesburg Central defeated the Lady Falcons, 2-1, on Sept. 24 at Waynesburg Stadium.
Brownsville wraps up its Section 3-AA slate tonight against Mount Pleasant (7-6, 10-6) tonight at Redstone Field at 7 p.m. The Lady Raiders, who have finished their regular season, will join the Lady Falcons in the WPIAL Class AA playoffs that are set to begin on Saturday. The WPIAL pairings meeting is Wednesday.
Rhea Kijowski gave Waynesburg Central a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at 32:51 of the first half.
Lemesh scored at 13:49 and 1:25 of the first to give Brownsville a 2-1 edge heading into halftime.
The Lady Falcons outshot the Lady Raiders, 8-7. Brownsville keeper Alexis Carson and Waynesburg Central goalie Emily McCarty each made six saves.

Bentworth 6, Beth-Center 0 – Jocelyn Timlin scored early and added two more for the hat trick in Bentworth’s 6-0 Section 2-A victory over Beth-Center on Monday in girls’ soccer action at Bentworth.
The Lady Bearcats (12-0, 14-1) were celebrating Senior Night. Bentworth’s five seniors haven’t lost at home since their freshmen year.
The Lady Bearcats finish their Section 2-A schedule undefeated, and following Wednesday’s non-section match at Brownsville (9-4, 11-4), Coach Tyler Hamstra’s team will enter the WPIAL Class A playoffs that are scheduled to begin on Saturday. The pairings meeting will be held on Wednesday.
The Lady Bulldogs (7-4, 8-6) finish up their section schedule on Tuesday when they host Charleroi (6-5, 6-6) at 7 p.m. Both teams will join Bentworth in the playoffs.
Paige Marshalek scored two goals and Caroline Rice added one for the Lady Bearcats. Bentworth has scored 100-plus team goals this season and have allowed eight in section play, including three critical goals against.
Lady Bearcats keeper Cande Kossel earned her ninth clean sheet this year.
Volleyball
Southmoreland 3, Belle Vernon 0 – Southmoreland earned a 3-0 sweep over Belle Vernon on Monday in non-section girls’ volleyball play at Belle Vernon Area High School.
The Lady Scotties won by scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-10.
The Lady Leopards’ Ashlyn Ayersman led her team in kills. Teammate Grace Kimmel was Belle Vernon’s digs leader and Mandy Fine led the home team in service points.
Belle Vernon (1-11) hosts Uniontown on Tuesday in Section 3-AAA play.

West Greene 3, Clay-Battelle (W.Va.) 1 — West Greene won the last two games to earn a 3-1 non-section victory over Clay-Battelle, West Virginia, on Monday in girls’ volleyball play at West Greene High School.
The Lady Pioneers (3-9, 6-11) won the first game, 25-19, but fell in the second, 25-23. West Greene won the third and fourth games, 25-15.
The Lady Pioneers’ Hannah Pettit had 16 digs. Teammate Brianna Goodwin had eight assists. WG’s Kaitlyn Rizor had seven kills. Haleigh Thomas had four aces for the home team.
West Greene is at California on Tuesday in Section 2-A action at 7:30 p.m.

Shaler 3, Elizabeth Forward 1 – Shaler won the last two games for a 3-1 non-section victory over Elizabeth Forward on Monday in girls’ volleyball play at Elizabeth Forward.
The Lady Titans won the first game, 25-12, before the Lady Warriors (9-3, 10-4) earned a 25-21 victory in the second game.
Shaler won the third game, 25-17, and the fourth, 25-19, to clinch the match.
Leah Fournier had nine kills for Elizabeth Forward and teammate Kaitlin Fournier had eight kills.
EF’s Sara Beatty had 17 digs and Liane Mooney added 10. Elizabeth Forward is at Albert Gallatin tonight at 7 p.m. in section action.
