Watkins honored again

Charleroi graduate Shayla Watkins was named the PAC Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week for the second straight week.

The Washington & Jefferson freshman goalkeeper led the Presidents to two conference victories, shutting out Bethany (W.Va.) and Waynesburg.

Watkins has three-straight shutouts and has not permitted a goal in the last 325:25 of action. She leads the conference with a .883 save percentage and is fourth in goals against average (0.92) with a record of 8-5-2.

The shutout victories enabled the Presidents to secure the second seed for the PAC tournament. W&J hosted Westminster in the semifinals Wednesday night.

Taylor recognized by PSAC

California University of Pa. freshman wide receiver Naszhir Taylor was named the PSAC-West Special Teams Athlete of the Week for his performance last Saturday in a 44-21 loss to Slippery Rock.

Taylor returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. He returned four kicks with an average 39.5 yards per return.
