By The 1 min read

California swept its season series with Monessen with a 14-4 Section 2-A victory on Tuesday at Malden Yards.

The Greyhounds (4-2, 5-5) scored three unearned runs in the top of the first and one in the third for a 4-0 lead before the first-place Trojans (6-0, 8-1) started to get their offense going.

Coach Lou Pasquale’s team scored two in the third and four in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to put the 10-run mercy rule into effect.

California’s Payton Conte allowed four runs, but only one was earned in seven innings. He surrendered five hits with eight strikeouts and four walks. Teammate Nate Zemany was 5 for 5 with five singles, five RBIs and three runs scored.

The Trojans’ Jacob Swartz had three hits, including a double, and Brody Conner doubled and had three RBIs for the home team.

Monessen’s Jack Sacco and Vincenzo Rhome doubled and teammate Cam Frolo had two singles.
