Stephens qualifies for nationals

Point Park junior Xavier Stephens is returning to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship after running the qualifying time Friday at the Youngstown State University Mid-Major Invitational.

The Albert Gallatin graduate won the 1,000-meter run in a school-record time of 2:30.34. Stephens competed in the 2018 nationals where he finished 12th.

Teammate Kara Rohlf, a Brownsville graduate, placed 15th in the 5,000 meters in 19:12. Waynesburg’s Aubrey Wingeart was fifth in 17:58.13. Former California (Pa.) distance standout, and Uniontown graduate, Julie Friend holds the meet record with a time of 16:45.93.

Duquesne’s Maris Seto, also a Brownsville grad, finished seventh in the long jump with a top effort of 17-2¾.
