Greyhounds have easy time at Mapletown, 82-23

Monessen scored all the points it needed in the first quarter Friday night in an 82-23 Section 2-A victory at Mapletown.

The Greyhounds win the section title with a 12-0 record, improving to 14-7 overall. The Maples finish 1-11 in the section and 1-21 overall. 

Monessen led 30-6 after the first quarter, and extended its lead to 55-13 at halftime. The Greyhounds outscored Mapletown in the second half, 27-10.

Darnel Howell scored a game-high 17 points for Monessen. Devin Whitlock (15), Elijahwa Payne (13), and Marquell Smith (10) also scored in double figures.

Mapletown was led by Lance Stevenson’s seven points.
