Cal U women close season with 72-60 win
The California University of Pa. women’s basketball team closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 72-60 victory at Clarion.
The Vulcans finish with a 17-4 mark in the PSAC West Conference and improve to 23-4 overall. The Golden Eagles finish 3-18 in the conference and 9-19 overall.
California is the No. 2 seed in the west and receives a bye into the quarterfinals. The Vulcans will play the winner of Edinboro-Gannon at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The visitors pulled away in the middle two quarters, extending their 16-14 first-quarter lead to 59-36 at the end of the third quarter.
Seairra Barrett once again led the charge for the Vulcans with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Abbey Sporio also scored 19 points, while Bianca Jasper added 18.
Kadijah Dickson led Clarion with 15 points. Yndiah Bobo added 13.
Men’s basketball
Clarion 90, California (Pa.) 78 — The Vulcans were unable to rally from an 11-point halftime deficit, finishing the season with a PSAC West Conference loss at Clarion.
Clarion (4-17, 6-20) led 44-34 at halftime.
Collin MacAdams had a strong game for the Vulcans (6-15, 8-19) with a game-high 29 points and 12 rebounds. Brent Pegram finished with 19 points and Zyan Collins added 17.
Lawrence Lemon was the top scorer for the Golden Eagles with 22 points. Khari Williams (18), Elijah Cottrill (14), and Brandon Williams (11) also finished in double figures.
California graduate Kass Taylor scored six points and grabbed one rebound for Clarion.
