Lady Colonials rally in 7th to defeat Kiski, 10-9
Albert Gallatin rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat host Kiski, 10-9, in the Section 1-AAAAA softball opener for both teams Tuesday.
The Lady Colonials trailed 8-7 after six innings before Annalia Paoli tripled and scored on Maddie Hershberger’s double to tie the game in the seventh. Maria Sutton put AG ahead with an RBI double, took third on Rylea Hlatky’s bunt single and scored an important insurance run on Shalya Reynolds’ sacrifice bunt.
The Lady Cavaliers scored once in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run on third when winning pitcher Maddie Flowers got a game-ending strikeout.
Hlatky had three hits for Albert Gallatin (1-1, 1-0) and Hershberger doubled twice. Flowers, Sutton and Delaney Girvin each contributed a double and single, and Paoli also had two hits.
Courtney Moyer smacked a pair of triples for Kiski, which also got doubles from Kassandra Cessna, Alayna Mintz and Alexa Nagy.
Flowers allowed two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of relief with one walk and five strikeouts.
Losing pitcher Megan Andree gave up 10 earned runs on 13 hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
The Lady Colonials came back from a 5-1 deficit with four runs in the fifth to pull even, but the Lady Cavaliers plated three runs in the bottom of the frame to go up 8-5. AG pushed across two runs in the sixth to set up its game-winning charge.
