Lady Cougars’ Waywood pitches two-hit shutout

By The 1 min read

Yough scored three runs in the first inning and that is all the offense Kierra Waywood need in the Lady Cougars’ 14-0 non-section victory over Derry Area on Wednesday at Yough.

Waywood pitched a two-hit shutout in five innings as the game was called due to the mercy rule. She had 10 strikeouts and no walks.

Yough (2-1) scored five more runs in the second for an 8-0 lead, and put the game out of reach with six in the fourth. The Lady Cougars’ Nevaeh Chopp, Emma Augustine, Kaylyn Odelli and Hannah Christner each had a double. Teammate Corrin Parquette tripled. Christner had three hits and two RBIs.

Yough’s Savannah Manns and Sammie McGhee had two base hits. McGhee and Prquette had two RBIs apiece.
