Ligonier Valley tops Belle Vernon, 3-1

Ligonier Valley scored three runs in the top of the first and held off Belle Vernon for a 3-1 non-section victory on Saturday at Belle Vernon in softball action.

The Lady Leopards (1-1, 1-4) scored one run in the sixth, but the Lady Rams’ Jane Garver only allowed the one run and seven hits in seven innings. She had four strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter.

Belle Vernon’s Sophie Godzak yielded three runs (two earned) on nine hits in seven. She had eight strikeouts and walked two. She also had an RBI single. Teammate Ashley Joll doubled for the game’s lone extra-base hit. The Lady Leopards’ Mekenzie Sokol had two singles.

Courtney McioKlveen had three base hits for Ligonier Valley (3-0, 4-0). Teammate Mia Lynn added two singles.

Belle Vernon is at Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday in Section 2-AAAA play at 3:45 p.m.
