Wiltrout continues strong start to season
Madison Wiltrout continued her strong start in the first month of the outdoor season as the University of Carolina redshirt freshman had another collegiate best in the javelin.
The Connellsville graduate placed third in the Florida Relays with top throw of 172-1 (52.45 meters). The distance is the fifth-best in the program’s history and is the best in the Atlantic Coast Conference by over eight feet.
Karen Wyzkowski set the program mark of 176-8 in 2003.
Wiltrout had throws of 51.12, 49.05, 52.41 and 48.75 meters, and fouled on her second attempt, before hitting her best throw on her final attempt.
Florida State sophomore Laura Paredes finished first with a top throw of 181-8 (55.38 meters). Georgia’s Marie-Therese Obst was second with a throw of 176-3 (53.73 meters).
Wiltrout entered the weekend meet with the eighth-best throw in the nation of 168-7 (52.45 meters). The throw was also good enough to finish first at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on March 16.
Wiltrout also finished first at the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point on March 22 with a top effort of 167-6 (51.05 meters).
