Cougars rally for 2-1 win
Charleroi hasn’t trailed much this season, but the Cougars found themselves down to Seton LaSalle early in the first half of Saturday’s non-section match at Myron Pottios Stadium before rallying for a 2-1 victory.
The Rebels (7-1-2, 7-4-2) scored at 13:31 of the first half before Eben McIntyre tied the match 26 seconds later after receiving a pass from Cullin Woytovich.
McIntyre set up Woytovich at 17:57 for a 2-1 lead for head coach Jon Ducoli’s squad.
Ducoli was pleased with the play of his backline in what he described as a tough, physical and fast second half. Ducoli pointed out the efforts of Joe Caruso and Ryan Withers for doing a “phenomenal job” on defense.
Cougars keeper Nick Goodwin made four saves and Charleroi (11-0, 14-0) had six shots on goal.
Seton LaSalle is one of the better teams in Class A, and one of the reasons Ducoli put the Rebels on schedule.
The Cougars, who have clinched their fifth straight playoff berth and the Section 2-AA title, host California (0-10, 2-12) on Monday in non-section play at 8 p.m.
