Vikings keep playoff hopes alive with 35-7 win
Mount Pleasant kept its flickering WPIAL Class AAA playoff hopes alive Friday night with a 35-7 victory over visiting Freeport in Big East Conference action.
The Vikings improve to 3-4 in the conference and 3-5 overall, and close the regular season needing a win at Uniontown to pull into a fourth-place tie with Freeport. Mount Pleasant holds the first tie-breaker by virtue of Friday’s win.
Freeport (3-5) closes conference play at 3-5.
Pete Billey and Jake Johnson combined for over 300 rushing yards for the Vikings. Johnson finished with a game-high 184 yards on 20 carries and had touchdown runs of 1, 93 and 2 yards. Billey ran for 120 yards on 12 carries with a 30-yard scoring run.
Nick Loughner’s 61-yard touchdown reception from Asher O’Connor accounted for the Vikings’ other touchdown.
