Jones runs for 269 yards as Mikes rally past Commodores, 32-26

Bailey Jones rushed for 269 yards and Carmichaels rallied from deficits of 14-0, 20-16 and 26-24 to pull out a 32-26 victory over visiting Frazier in a Century Conference football battle last Friday night.

Extra points played a key role in the outcome as both teams scored four touchdowns but while the Commodores got two extra-point kicks from Tristen Scott, the Mikes converted on four 2-point conversions with Jones running in three and Kevin Kelly one.

Kelly’s 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth-quarter, his second of the game, was the winning score for the Mikes (2-4, 3-5).

The Commodores (1-5, 2-7), who had won two in a row, went up 14-0 on Colton Arison’s 98-yard kickoff return to start the game and Kenny Fine’s 11-yard run in the second quarter, with Tristen Scott converting both extra points.

Carmichaels, which has won two straight, cut the gap to 14-8 on an 9-yard TD run by Kelly.

The Mikes took the lead on Jones’ 9-yard touchdown run to start a wild third quarter. Fine returned the ensuring kickoff 98 yards for a TD to put the visitors ahead. Mike Stewart put Carmichaels back on top with a 9-yard touchdown run but Fine countered with an 8-yard scoring run to give Frazier a two-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Kelly rushed for 51 yards and completed 4 of 8 passes for 48 yards, including a 30-yard toss to Michael Robison. Jones, Al Cree and Trenton Carter each also had one reception.

Noah Phillips ran for 89 yards and made one catch for 21 yards to lead the Commodores. Fine had 44 yards rushing and four receptions for 25 yards to go for his two returns for touchdowns. Brayden Boggs connected on 6 of 12 passes for 51 yards.
