Rachel Rohanna opened the eight-round LPGA Q Series Thursday with a 3-over 74 at Pinehurst No. 6.

The Waynesburg Central graduate finished with five bogeys and three birdies in the opening round.

Rohanna started on No. 10 with a bogey. She recorded two bogeys and two birdies over the final five holes on her front nine to go out in 1-over 36.

Bogeys on Nos. 4, 7 and 8 pushed her score to 4-over for the tournament, but she closed the first round with a birdie to play her back nine in 2-over 38.

“I just missed a few greens and had some really bad lies in the rough that made them difficult up-and-downs,” said Rohanna. “My putting wasn’t the best today, either, but ball striking was good enough to score.”

“Both! But, mostly speed. My pace is usually pretty good, but way off today,” responded Rohanna to her issues on the green. “I think once I get a better feel for these greens, I’ll bring it back. I still have seven rounds of golf, so plenty of time to catch up.

The tournament will continue on Pinehurst No. 6 for next three rounds, then move to Pinehurst No. 9 next week for the final four rounds.
