Brestensky tosses 1-hitter in M&R Transit’s 3-0 win
Justin Brestensky allowed only one hit Tuesday night as M&R Transit scratched out a 3-0 victory against visiting Carmichaels in Fayette County Baseball League action.
Brestensky carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning when he allowed a single by Ron Nopwasky. He walked three and struck out 10 in the complete-game victory.
M&R Transit (11-2) benefited from a couple Copperheads errors in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Andino Vecchiolla added an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Santino Marra’s double and single accounted for the remaining offense for the home team.
Joe Sabolek and Nick Pegg combined on a 3-hitter in the loss.
Sabolek allowed the two unearned runs in the first inning on two hits with one walk, one hit batter and 10 strikeouts. Pegg allowed one run on on hit.
Carmichaels goes to 6-5.
ARH Sport Shop 9, Mill Run 2 — ARH Sport Shop tied the game in the bottom of the first inning and took the lead for good in the second inning for a Fayette County Baseball League home victory.
Mill Run (2-10) scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning.
ARH Sport Shop rallied with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The home team then scored twice in the bottom of the second inning, and added to its lead with one run in the fourth inning and two run in the fifth and sixth innings.
Garrit Woodburn pitched the first six innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Logan Mayhle allowed one hit and hit one batter in the seventh inning.
Seth Burgdolt sparked ARH Sport Shop (2-8) with two triples, two singles, two runs scored and three RBIs. Wyatt Lepley finished with a double and single, and Dillon Wilson had two doubles.
Forrest Havanis doubled and Bryce Rayl tripled in the victory.
Nolan Porterfield went 3-for-3 for Mill Run with a double and two singles. Josh Burns added a double.
Kole Koontz took the loss.
Fayette American Legion
Uniontown 6, Connellsville 4, 8 innings — Braeden O’Brien’s two-run double in the top of the eighth inning lifted visiting Uniontown to a Fayette County American Legion Baseball League victory at Connellsville.
Christian Thomas led off the eighth inning against relief pitcher Matt Miller with a walk and moved to second on C.J. Gesk’s sacrifice bunt. Ty Sankovich walked, and both runners scored on O’Brien’s two-out double.
Uniontown improves to 10-1 in league play and 10-4 overall.
Connellsville (4-8, 5-9) plays Smithfield-Fairchance Friday at Hutchinson Field at 7 p.m. in the tournament play-in game. The winner advances to the semifinals Saturday against top-seeded Uniontown.
Uniontown tied the game in the top of the seventh inning when Brant Bonadio tripled and came home on Ben Diamond’s single.
Connellsville grabbed the early lead when Caleb Burd singled home Jerry Gales and JimBob Domer in the bottom of the first inning.
Uniontown shaved one run off the deficit in the top of the second inning on Joe Chambers’ ground out and took its first lead an inning later on Ty Sankovich’s run-scoring ground out and Alex McClain’s double.
Christian Thomas pitched the final three innings to earn the win. Chambers started and struck out seven.
Domer started and pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts.
