Belle Vernon Legion rallies for road victory

Belle Vernon scored the game-deciding run in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 9-8 Fayette County American Legion Baseball League victory Monday night at Connellsville.

Jack Sacco scored the winning run on a two-out error.

Connellsville tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a wild pitched and a misplayed fly ball to the outfield.

The home team led 2-1 after the first inning and 5-3 after two innings. Connellsville (1-5) regained the lead on JimBob Domer’s three-run double.

Belle Vernon (4-0) led 8-6 after four innings. The visitors scored four runs in the top of the third inning on two-run doubles by Donovan von Fradenburg and Martin Marion and Ryan Hamer’s ground out in the fourth inning.

Evan Morrow picked up the win and Andrew Kostelnik pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the save.

Fradenburg led the visitors with two hits, three RBI and a run scored. Marion finisehd with two hits and two RBI. Jake Wessel, Morrow and Sacco all had two hits with Sacco scoring three runs.

Jared Hough took the loss for Connellsville. Domer paced the home team with three hits, four RBI and two runs scored. Hough had two hits, drove in a run and scored once. Aiden Newmyer finished with three hits.
