Falcon wrestlers win Panther Classic team title

Connellsville had eight wrestlers make the medals stand and easily outscored the field for the team title Saturday in the Panther Holiday Wrestling Classic held at Mount Aloysius College.

The Falcons finished with 216 points, easily outdistancing Penns Valley with 136 points.

Evan Petrovich (145) and Lonzy Vielma (160) won titles, while Landon Lynn (114) and Kai Velma (133) placed second.

Nolan Rice won a decision at 107 pounds in the third-place consolation. Christopher Cook fell in the third-place consolation at 215 pounds. Tommy Gretz placed fifth at 107 pounds and Julian Ruggieri won his seventh-place consolation bout at 139 pounds.

Doug Conroy Memorial Duals – Albert Gallatin split two matches, Jefferson-Morgan won 3-of-4 matches, and host Ringgold won both matches.

Albert Gallatin defeated Ligonier Valley, 48-24, after trailing 24-6.

The Colonials’ Julius Pool (107), Jason Myers (189), Austin Coddington (285), and Kage Churby (145) won by forfeit. Colton Kelley (152), Landon Conroy (172), and Collin Rockwell (215) all won with pins.

Jefferson-Morgan had wins against Albert Gallation (53-20), Ligonier Valley (66-12), McKeesport (52-12), and Chartiers Valley (48-24).

Connor Pinchok (127), Colton Humphreys (133), Johnny Gilbert (145), Brenton Barnhart (152), Chase Frameli (160), Adam McAnany (215), Carson Sweeney (114), James Dulaney (121), and Mason Sisler (285) against the Colonials, while Logan Holbort (139), Landon Conroy (172), James Standish (189), and Julius Poole (107) posted wins for Albert Gallatin.

Ringgold defeated Ligonier Valley, 66-12, and Jefferson-Morgan, 46-20.

The Rams’ Evan Tolliver (121), Nico Bove (127), Brennan Ambrose (133), Braydon Campbell (139), Cristian Lowther (145), Brenton Barnhart (152), Gavin Mincin (172), Owen Conroy (189), Jake Conroy (215), and Andrew Bruce (107) were victorious. Carson Sweeney (114), Chase Frameli (160), and Mason Sisler (285) won for Jefferson-Morgan.

Girls basketball

Burrell 37, Yough 17 – The Lady Bucs were tough at home for a non-section win over the visiting Lady Cougars.

Burrell trailed after the first quarter, 8-5, but rallied for an 11-8 halftime lead.

Anna Clark scored a game-high 12 points for Burrell. Autumn Matthews and Hailey Bock both finished with six points for Yough.

Trinity 59, Belle Vernon 15 – The Lady Hillers returned home with a non-section victory.

Trinity (4-1) led 15-3, 33-9 and 48-9 at the quarter breaks.

Sam Horne scored 11 and Sutton Williamson finished with 10 for Trinity.

Kenzi Seliga had six points for the Lady Leopards (3-3). Carolyn Lee grabbed 10 rebounds.

Boys basketball

Hempfield 64, Connellsville 35 – The Falcons trailed at halftime, 37-12, in a non-section road loss to the Spartans.

Danny Husenits (19) and Drew Gordon (13) scored in double figures for Hempfield (2-4).

Connellsville slips to 0-6 overall.
