Black throws for 3 TDs in Cal U win
California forced a turnover on Clarion’s first possession and turned that into a score as the Vulcans ran away with a 37-7 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play Saturday afternoon at Adamson Stadium.
Davis Black was 23-32 for 287 yards with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. He threw a six-yard strike to D’Avay Johnson for a 7-0 lead at 9:56 of the first quarter after Anthony Beitko connected on the first of four PATs.
Beitko connected on a 36-yard field goal with 12:45 left in the second quarter for a 10-0 lead before the Golden Eagles’ Zach Benedek scored on a 5-yard run and Andrew Kurtas made the extra point to cut the deficit to 10-7 with 7:19 remaining before halftime.
Cal U (2-0, 3-1) got the touchdown back before halftime after Eric Willis III pulled in a 37-yard reception with 1:03 left in the second quarter. Willis III caught 8 passes for 120 yards.
Demonte Martin’s 37-yard touchdown reception with 10:55 left in the third quarter pushed the home team’s lead to 24-7. Eric McKan III (2 yards) and Davonte Williams (20 yards) scored touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
McKan rushed for 65 yards on 14 carries and Bobby Boyd Jr. had 50 yards on 11 carries.
The Vulcans travel to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (1-1, 3-2) next week for the 14th Annual Coal Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Clarion (0-2, 1-4) hosts Seton Hill (0-2, 1-4) next week in PSAC play at 2 p.m.
